Webelos II's

Check out the new Boy Scout Troop locator map on the lower right side of this web page. This shows most of the Boy Scout Troops of the Red-Tailed Hawk District and where they are located. We will be adding more along with those from Trailhead and Trails West. Remember, for the Arrow of Light requirement you are required to visit a Troop Meeting and partake in a Boy Scout outdoor activity.

4th Pack Meeting - December

We had a great night with our surpirse being Mad Science doing "Up and Away" along with a demonstration of a Tesla Coil!  See it is possible to learn something and still have fun.

Harvesters

We helped out at Harvesters on December 3rd and had 71 scouts and family members show up to help out. As a group we packed 1,375 lbs. of food for the back pack snack program and around 18,000 lbs of assorted meals. This shows was scouting is all about, thanks to everyone for participating!!!

 Upcoming Pack Events

February 4 - 119th Street Cleanup

We will meet at the Heatherstone Pool at 9:00am and do our community service of picking up trash along 119th Street from Blackbob to Pflumm.

February 5 - Scout Sunday

Wear you uniform to church to show support for Scouts!

February 7 - Leaders Meeting

Our Leaders meeting will be at Indian Creek Community Church at 7:00pm - 8:00pm in room 231. If your interested in seeing how the Pack runs, put your opinion in or are interested in working a position come along!!

February 18 - Blue & Gold / Crossover Ceremony

Our annual Blue & Gold and Crossover Ceremony will be at the KU Edwards Campus in the new Best Auditorium.

We cannot take anymore reservations for this event as we have turned in the final numbers to KU and to Hy-Vee.  The deadline was 5pm on Friday February 3rd. If you signed up for dinner we will have table assignments for you on the day of the event.  If you signed up to attend the awards portion but no dinner we will have table assignments for you as well. 

If you did not let us know you planned on attending there will be very little standing room in the back of the auditorium due to the large number of people who signed up to attend. We will be posting the event schedule soon so check back often and thanks to everyone who signed up to attend this event, it's going to be amazing!

February 20 - Johnson County Nursing Home

We will make our annual trip to the nursing home to visit with the residents and bhopefully brighten their day. This event does count towards the Den Competition.

March 1 - RTH Rountable

All leaders are encouraged to attend this monthly gathering. Leaders from other packs also attend and it make a great agthering time to discuss ideas and ask questions. It is held at the Church of the Nazarene starting at 7pm

 March 6 - Leaders Meeting

The meeting will be held at the ICCC at 7pm in room 231. Anyone interested in becoming a leader or just wantng to help or see how the Pack is run is encouraged to attend.

March 22 - 7th Pack Meeting

As usual the Pack Meeting will be held in the Gym at Heatherstone from 6:30-8:00pm. 

March 23-24 - Pack Lock-In at ICCC

This was such a great time last year the scouts asked for it again and here it is. We will spend the night in the rec room of Indian Creek Community Church and watch movies, eat popcorn, work on a belt loop or two and play some games. Don't forget to let us know if you are coming so we can be sure to have enough snacks for everyone! It will run from 6:30pm on March 23 to 9:00am on Mach 24th, family members are welcome as always!

Bear Camp

Bear Camp is a 2 day 1 night resident camp for the current Wolf Scouts that will be held at Camp Naish in Cub World. Here the scout will earn many requirements for the Bear Badge. Camping will is done in a canvass style tent with a wood plank floor and cots (2 per tent). Boys and their adult partner will participate in many exciting activities listed below:

Theme Related Activities - Crafts, Games
Outdoor Cooking
Special Events
Exciting Campfire with Staff and Cub Scout Participation
Field Sports - BB Guns, Action Archery
Nature and Conservation
Campsite Living
Central Camp Trading Post
Parents MUST BE WITH Scout at all times.
Note: Bear Resident Camp is a one-on-one camping experience.  Therefore every youth attending camp must have an adult partner.  Special circumstances require the approval of a Heart of America Council Representative.

If you are interested in going please contact Chip Stovall or David Dock for info and signup. Additionally, any adult attending Webelos Camp (full or part time) MUST BE a registered member of Boy Scouts of America.

Webelos Camp

Webelos Camp is a 3 Day 2 Night camping experience in the main part of Camp Naish. Upon arrival all scouts and adults ARE REQUIRED to take the BSA Swim Test to asses their swimming ability so if you need swim lessons start now! If the scout passes the BSA swim test and receives the blue band and finishes Webelos Camp he will have earned the Aquanaut Pin.

The cost to attend Webelos Camp for 2012 will be $130 per Scout and and $130 per Full Time leader on or before 5-2-12 with a $40 deposit per person made at the time of sign up.  After 5-2-12 the cost will increase to $145 per person. The cost for Part Time Leaders will be $55 per day on or before 5-2-12, and from 5-2-12 or after the cost will be $60 per day;  Part Time Leaders cannot combine days to share a Full Time slot. Additionally, any adult attending Webelos Camp (full or part time) MUST BE a registered member of Boy Scouts of America.

Sessions have a limited capacity.  Any registered Webelos Scout (including third grade graduates) may attend Webelos Camp. Webelos camp programs are conducted during the summer at the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation.  Webelos camp is a three-day, two-night experience, and contains separate activities for first and second year Webelos.

 First Year Webelos program include activities which introduce Scouts to an outdoor camping experience. Requirements for Aquanaut, Craftsman, Readyman, Naturalist and Outdoorsman Activity Pins are offered.
The Second Year Webelos program is designed to help prepare older Webelos for their transition to Boy Scouts and Boy Scout Camping. Highlights include a Bouldering Wall, Model Rocket Building and Action Archery.

New Outdoor Skills and Games areas allow Scouts to have fun in an outdoor camp setting while teaching them how to work together. Various certification courses like Youth Protection Training, Safe Swim Defense and Boy Scout Fast Start Training for Adult Leaders are also offered. Knowledgeable Commissioners are on hand to help and serve.

Day Camp June 18-21

Day Camp is a 4 day event (no overnighter) that runs from 9am to 3pm Monday June 18 to Thursday June 21. A Pack chartered bus will pickup the scouts and walking leaders (parent volunteers) at Heatherstone each morning and return them at the end of each day. The program is open to all levels of Cub Scouts as well as any boys in the K-6th grade level who may be interested in scouts or just want to have some fun.The theme for the 2012 Cub Scout Day Camp program is "Wild West Cubs."

These Tigers and Wolf Scouts shoot BB guns and bows and arrows; work on badges and Cub Scout belt loops; cook out; sing songs; learn about nature; make crafts; and play games. If you have not made plans to attend, you should! Going to camp is a wonderful part of the Cub Scouting experience

Scouts paid in full on or before April 4, 2012 - $55.00 per Scout
Scouts paid on or after April 5, 2012 - $65.00 per Scout
Scouts added at camp - $70.00 per Scout

New Scouts (including new Tigers - new Kindergarten graduates) who register after April 4, will be offered the $50 rate at whatever time they sign up for Day Camp. Ifyu are interested in going or want more information contact Jennifer Klimek.
